Zoom saves every recording as ordinary files: an MP4 (video) and usually an M4A (audio only) in your Zoom folder or cloud recordings page. Trustample transcribes either one directly. The M4A uploads faster because it's a fraction of the size.
Unlike meeting-bot tools, nothing joins your call, nothing announces itself to participants, and nothing needs your Zoom login. You stay in control: record with Zoom as usual, then transcribe only the meetings you actually need as text.

Where does Zoom store my recordings?
Local recordings live in the Documents → Zoom folder on your computer, one subfolder per meeting. Cloud recordings (paid Zoom plans) are downloaded from the web portal's Recordings tab. Both give you standard MP4/M4A files Trustample accepts.
Should I upload the MP4 or the M4A?
The M4A: it's audio-only, so it uploads several times faster and transcribes identically. Use the MP4 only if the M4A file isn't there.
Is this better than Zoom's built-in transcript?
Zoom's cloud transcription requires a paid plan and produces a fixed VTT you can't easily edit. My recording folder only has a file called double_click_to_convert. What happened?
Zoom converts local recordings into MP4 and M4A when the meeting ends. If the app closed before conversion finished, the meeting folder holds a placeholder named double_click_to_convert instead. Reopen the Zoom desktop app and double-click that file; Zoom rebuilds the MP4 and M4A, and then you upload the M4A as usual.
How long a recording can I upload?
A standard one-hour meeting fits on any plan tier with room to spare. Free handles recordings up to 30 minutes, which covers stand-ups and quick syncs; Basic takes files up to 3 hours, enough for a marathon quarterly planning session; and Pro stretches to 6 hr 40 min per file.
Do I need attendees' permission to transcribe a meeting?
Consent rules for recording vary by location, and some places require everyone's agreement. Zoom already notifies participants when recording starts; make sure your recording itself is lawful, and transcribing a recording you legitimately made adds no new consent requirement in most places. Check your local rules if you're unsure.
An honest note: Heavy crosstalk, meaning several people speaking simultaneously, is the hardest audio for any AI. Zoom meetings with disciplined turn-taking transcribe extremely well; free-for-alls will need more inline correction.
